The London Borough of Merton wanted to create a unique meeting place for families and children in the Mitcham neighbourhood. The key goal was to design a playground that would not only provide a safe and creative space for play, but also blend harmoniously into the natural greenery and become an integral part of the local community.
Active Landscapes supplied and installed a village pond-themed playground. The colourful safety surface depicts a water scene with its inhabitants – frogs, water lilies and other elements of nature – creating a magical, fairy-tale atmosphere. The structures were built from natural robinia wood, ensuring the whole playground blends perfectly with the neighbouring community orchard and gardens.
The outcome is a welcoming, aesthetic and functional playground that has become a true showcase of the neighbourhood. Its natural theme and attention to detail not only encourage children to be active, but also support community interaction and relaxation. Miles Road Playground is the quintessence of a British village pond-themed play area, located right next to the Mitcham Community Orchard & Gardens.
